Samen met Arp, Brancusi, Lipchitz en Zadkine behoort Henri Laurens tot de belangrijkste pioniers van de moderne Europese beeldhouwkunst. Tot en met de jaren '60 was zijn werk op tentoonstellingen van internationale sculptuur in Nederland een vast gegeven. Daarna raakte hij in de vergetelheid. De expositie en het boek 'De grote curve - retrospectief Henri Laurens (1885-1954)' brengt de kunst van deze belangrijkste Franse beeldhouwer van het modernisme terug in de schijnwerpers. Een selectie van ruim vijftig werken geeft een uniek inzicht in Laurens' ontwikkeling van het hoekige kubisme uit zijn begintijd tot de grote curve van zijn sensuele naakten uit de jaren '30 en '40.
