"Este libro es el resultado de investigaciones llevadas a cabo en el municipio de San Sebastián del Oeste empezando en 1996, durante las cuales fueron registrados 72 lugares con evidencia de uso prehispánico, principalmente asentamientos, panteones y piedras grabadas con petroglifos. Aquí presentamos mapas de los sitios registrados, fotografías de las piedras con petrofligos que son las más sobresalientes, la colocación cronológica de los restos según el material encontrado, así como fotografías, descripciones, clasificación e interpretación de materiales recuperados en algunas excavaciones de rescate. Además, incluimos mucha información sobre la historia de las exploraciones destructivas que han dañado tanto al patrimonio cultural prehispánico del municipio. Creemos importante reportar la informacón obetnida de estas investigaciones no solo para lo que pueda aportar a los estudios arqueológicos del Occidente de México, sino también para difundir a la gente del municipio de San Sebastián del Oeste una interpretación profesional sobre las culturas prehispánicas que habitaron su municipio entre aproximadamente 800 a.C. y 1600 d.C" -- Back cover.
