Education and communication

First Sentence

This book is a collection of essays written at different periods but all of them relate to some aspect or other of education and communication. The first section stresses the importance of looking at education and communication as two sides of the same coin. It has three articles: one written for The Hindu soon after my return from the United States in 1982 after doing 12 years of research and teaching in that country; the second written on the basis of a questionnaire survey of U.S. School children's awareness about India conducted in 1971 and 1978; and the third based on a talk given at the Seminar on Educational Journalism conducsted by the Cente for Adult Education and Extrension, University of Kerala in November, 1983. The second section deals with a very vital topic---communication and development. The topic is so vast that a separate book itself on it is necessary.. The first article in this section was originally published in Amsterdam. It as based on my thesis submitted to Temple University, Philadelphia where I did research and teaching in the 1970s. The second article was prepared for a Seminar on Development Communication conducted by the Council for Social Development, New Delhi, in February, 1984.
