Description
The grand jury has a distinguished history in Anglo-American legal history, from the reign of King Henry II (1154-1189) to the adoption of the Grand Jury Clause in the Fifth Amendment of the Bill of Rights (1791). On the state level, a large number have adopted grand jury provisions within their constitutions and even more within their statutes.
