Der Sammelband zeichnet, der Konzeption des Jahrbuchs entsprechend, zunächst die biblischen Grundlagen nach. Zentrale Texte, die behandelt werden, sind Gen 6,7, Ex 34,6, das Jonabuch, die synoptische Überlieferung sowie Röm 9-11. Anhand rabbinischer Diskussionen und der Frage des Almosengebens im Islam werden aber auch die anderen monotheistischen Religionen mit einbezogen. Kirchenhistorische Beiträge aus den Bereichen Patristik und der compassio-Vorstellung sind ebenso vertreten wie aktuelle Problemkreise in dogmatischen, ethischen und praktisch-theologischen Fragestellungen."--
