Description
Ferdinand Hodler und Alberto Giacometti sind die beiden bedeutendsten Schweizer Maler der Moderne. In jungen Jahren war Giacometti noch stark von Hodlers Malerei geprägt, vermittelt vor allem durch seinen Vater Giovanni, ein Freund des Berners. Dass es auch im reifen Schaffen erstaunliche Parallelen und Verwandtschaften gibt, zeigt die Ausstellung. So finden sich bei beiden ein ähnlich suchender Strich der Zeichnung, die Thematisierung des eigenen Ichs im Selbstporträt bzw. im Alter Ego des Bruders. Beide befragen die menschliche Existenz in der Einzelfigur wie in Gruppendarstellungen, wobei auch der Tod allgegenwärtig ist.
