Als Maler und Zeichner ist Rolf-Gunter Dienst (1942-2016) einer der prägenden Vertreter der Konkreten Kunst in Europa. Unverwechselbares Element seiner Werke ist ein von ihm erfundenes skripturales Kürzel, das er als grafisches Emblem in den malerischen Prozess einbindet. Auf diese Weise verleiht er seinen monumentalen Farbkompositionen eine vibrierende Struktur. Inspiration war dem Künstler, Kritiker und Autor zeitlebens die Literatur, darunter Werke von Jorge Luis Borges oder Gabriel José García Márquez. Deren Stimmung setzte er auf faszinierende Weise in eine ganz eigene Bildsprache um. Der reich bebilderte Katalog der Gemälde und Zeichnungen gewährt einen tiefen Einblick in das vielfältige Œuvre des jüngst verstorbenen Künstlers.
