First Sentence

The Kalambo Falls (Plate 1.1) are at the same time impressive and awe-inspiring, whether one is peering down from the lip to the small moist zone of lush vegetation, ferns, 'elephant ear' and wild banana (Ensete sp.), supported by the spray at the bottom of the fall, or one is viewing them from the path, west along the stop of the gorge, where the full magnitude of the waterfall is manifest against the backdrop of its sheer vertical cliff on the south side, the nesting place for numerous marabou storks.
