Nach ihrer Machtübernahme 1944 wollten die bulgarischen Kommunisten auch eine "sozialistische Lebensweise" verwirklichen: Alle Aspekte des alltäglichen Lebens sollten nach ideologischen Zielvorgaben umgestaltet werden. Bei der Umsetzung dieses Vorhabens stießen Partei und Staat aber auf eine widerspenstige Bevölkerung, die ihr Leben nicht nach den Vorgaben der Ideologie leben wollte. Eine dialektische Dynamik aus politischer Intervention und eigenwilligen Praktiken entstand, welche die realsozialistische Erfahrung ausmachte. Anhand zentraler Baustellen der "sozialistischen Lebensweise" - wie der sozialistischen Stadt Dimitrovgrad, der Politisierung der Freizeit und der Familienpolitik - untersucht das Buch kommunistische Gesellschaftspolitik, deren Ergebnisse zwar selten den Intentionen entsprochen haben, die aber dennoch Gesellschaft und Kultur Bulgariens nachhaltig transformiert haben.--Provided by Publisher.
