Cet ouvrage étudie une collection de découvertes archéologiques anciennes issues de La Tène (canton de Neuchâtel, Suisse), site éponyme du Second âge du Fer européen, l'époque celtique par excellence. La Tène, daté d'environ 200 av. J.-C., fait l'objet de discussions quant à l'interprétation du site depuis sa découverte en 1857 : aujourd'hui, les archéologues considèrent que l'on est en présence de trophées d'expositions d'armes, de parures, d'outils, d'animaux, d'humains... L'étude typologique et anthropologique des 141 objets et nombreux restes humains conservés à Genève est présentée, accompagnée d'une riche documentation graphique et photographique. Le contexte historique de l'acquisition de ces trouvailles issues des bords du lac de Neuchâtel, en particulier par le Musée d'art et d'histoire de Genève, en vue de leur exposition et de leur conservation à l'extrémité du lac Léman, ajoute une page significative à l'histoire des recherches en archéologie protohistorique, entre la fin du 19e et le début du 20e siècle.
