Description
Unabhängig von politischen Richtungen und Mainstream entstand im Erzgebirge über fünfzig Jahre eine Kunstsammlung, die Bestes der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts in sich vereint. Der Auerbacher Strumpfwirker Willi Illig (1897?1971) sammelte nicht nur leidenschaftlich, er suchte in Atelierbesuchen und in teilweise umfangreichen Briefwechseln auch die persönliche Nähe zu Künstlern und Kunstschaffenden. Das Buch legt eine Auswahl seiner Korrespondenzen vor, darunter Briefe von Käthe Kollwitz, Alfred Kubin und O.Th.W. Stein sowie Elisabeth Ahnert, Hans Jüchser, Hans Körnig, Albert Wigand oder Fritz Winkler. Seine Sammlung wird neben Werken der genannten Meister durch so bedeutende Vertreter wie Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, Erich Heckel, Josef Hegenbarth, Carl Hofer, Paul Klee, Oskar Kokoschka oder Karl Schmidt-Rottluff vervollständigt. Die Publikation rückt die außerordentliche Persönlichkeit Willi Illigs und sein besonderes Verhältnis zu Künstlern der Zeit in den Mittelpunkt.
