Die bis dato unveröffentlichte Korrespondenz umfasst insgesamt über 200 Briefe, ausgetauscht zwischen dem deutschen Komponisten Richard Strauss, dem österreichischen Schriftsteller Hugo von Hofmannsthal und Alfred Roller, Bühnenbildner unter Gustav Mahler und eine der zentralen Figuren des österreichischen Opern- und Theaterschaffens des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts. Neben dem viel gelesenen und zitierten Briefwechsel zwischen Strauss und Hofmannsthal ermöglichen die Briefe von und an Roller einen neuen Blickwinkel auf die österreichische Musikgeschichte, auf die Entstehungsgeschichte wegweisender Produktionen wie dem Rosenkavalier oder Jedermann sowie die Gründungszeit der Salzburger Festspiele.
