Description
Ricostruzione delle condizioni storico-culturali in cui si è formata la mafia calabrese ('ndrànghita) e delle circostanze della sua evoluzione. La denominazione «Andragathia regio», che i cartografi del '500 localizzavano nel territorio della Magna Grecia, mostra che il fenomeno non è recente, come i mafiologi hanno generalmente ipotizzato, ma medievale, con radici che affondano nella Grecità antica. L'analisi dei "codici d'onore" ndranghitistici mostra che inizialmente la cosiddetta "onorata società" era percepita come l'insieme dei valori di valentia, coraggio, magnanimità e altruismo che si assommano nel termine "omertà" ("essere uomo"), erede della semantica della voce greca antica ἀνδραγαθία.
