Rosemary Palmer-Farr loves farming and animals - her childhood was spent mostly at Bengairney Farm with her dear friends the Carafords. Now a young woman, she wants to prove her worth in running the gardens of her father's dwindling estate. However, her mother Catherine only wants her to secure a good marriage and believes that tenant farmers like the Carafords are inferior. So when her daughter's childhood friendship deepens into love, Catherine takes action to keep the young couple apart.
