[Letter to] My dear friend

Description

Wigham thinks that British sympathies would have been more strongly with the North if an anti-slavery war had been proclaimed. She tells May that she cannot understand a war for the preservation of the Union, nor abolitionist support for such a war. She expresses fears of war with England over the Trent Affair and criticizes President Abraham Lincoln. Wigham adds that the criticism of the English people by the abolitionists has reduced contributions to the support of the "Anti-Slavery Standard."
