Description
Dating from about 1552 B.C., the Ebers Papyrus was discovered about 1862 and purchased by Georg Ebers in 1873. It measures 20.23 m. in length and 30 cm. in height. At the time of discovery, it was considered the most important medical papyrus yet recovered; it is written in hieratic script and contains the most complete record of Egyptian medicine known. In 1875 Ebers published a facsimile of the papyrus with a partial translation.
