Il De verborum significatione di Sesto Pompeo Festo, ampio repertorio lessicale di parole ed espressioni latine antiche, è un?opera di tradizione tormentata: fu traghettato all?età umanistica da un codex unicus mutilo e danneggiato dal fuoco, che, dopo la sua riscoperta, subì l?ulteriore perdita di alcuni fascicoli oggi ricostruibili solo tramite apografi. L?edizione del Lindsay, a oggi corrente, si basa su una documentazione carente e non di rado inesatta, che non consente di fruire di un testo critico pienamente affidabile. Il presente lavoro espone i risultati dell?atteso riesame diretto dell?intera tradizione manoscritta, analizzata prima dal punto di vista materiale e poi da quello della ricostruzione stemmatica, e offre una riconsiderazione della storia editoriale del testo.00Sextus Pompeius Festus? De verborum significatione, a comprehensive lexicon of ancient Latin words, is a text with a difficult tradition: it was led to humanistic age by a codex unicus, incomplete and damaged by fire; after its rediscovery, it suffered the further loss of some quires which today can only be reconstructed by apographs. Lindsay?s standard edition is based on an insufficient and often inaccurate documentation, which does not allow the use of a fully reliable critical text. The present volume shows the results of a direct recognition of the entire manuscript tradition, analyzed from the material point of view and from that of the stemmatic reconstruction, and offers a reconsideration of the editorial history of the text. To provide a concrete example of the progress that can be made by applying new care to the text, a specimen of critical edition is presented, accompanied for the first time by an Italian translation, notes, and broad indexes.
