Abstract:The Forensic Science Service is an Executive Agency and a Trading Fund of the Home Office. It serves the administration of the criminal justice system by providing forensic science advice and support to the police forces of England and Wales, the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Customs and Excise and other agencies, as well as offering services to businesses both in the UK and abroad. This is the agency's annual report and accounts for the period 2004-05, during which time it handled nearly 130,000 cases, processed its one millionth DNA sample through its automated processing system, and it launched a new innovative service involving mobile laboratory facilities
