Description
Eternal Egypt offers readers a useful chronological overview of Egyptian history. All the different periods are covered, from prehistory to the revolution of 2011, from the discovery of flint toolmaking to the building of the pyramids, from the pharaonic dynasties to the Roman conquest with the 'showbiz couple' Antony and Cleopatra. Attention is also paid to the Copts and to Islamic Egypt. The history of Egypt has always been intriguing, and in Europe led to 'Egyptomania'. In the second half of the 19th century, archaeological research in Egypt really got under way. Egyptology took flight at the same time, culminating in the interesting archaeological research being conducted today. 'Eternal Egypt' describes recent Dutch and Belgian excavations in Egypt. Exhibition: Allard Pierson Museum, Haarlem, the Netherlands (12.7.2013-5.1.2014).
