Description
El manuscrito, comenzado en agosto de 1593, tiene dos partes: la que consideran los editores cartapacio base y otra segunda formada por cuadernillos diversos añadidos por los bibliotecarios del conde de Gondomar a partir de esa fecha. Esta antología toresana contiene: 54 romances y sonetos de Lope de Vega, 26 de los cuales son testimonio único; 21 poemas de Pedro Liñán de Riaza, con 2 que son testimonio único; 19 composiciones de Barahona de Soto; 16 composiciones de Luis de Góngora; 9 poemas de Vicente Espinel; 8 sonetos de frey Miguel Cejudo, entre ellos un intercambio entre él y Lope, exclusivo de este manuscrito; 3 sonetos de fray Melchor de la Serna; 1 égloga de Gonzalo Pérez, fuente única; 191 poemas que solo se hallan en este cartapacio. 48 poetas del XVI están representados en él, varios del entorno literario del conde de Gondomar. En total 442 composiciones. Los editores defienden que el autor fue Baltasar, el autor material y acaso el compilador del cuaderno, para dárselo a su hermano Pedro.
