Description
I have not read this particular book from Mark and Delia Owens - yet- but I have read Cry of the Kalahari and Secrets of the Savannah which covered some of the stories in this book. If you enjoy stories about African animals and the people who live and work with them, you will find these books hard to put down. THey are full of fascinating stories about Africa, its animals and the breathtaking beauty and inherent dangers and difficulties of living and traveling in a land that is 5 times the size of the US. Mark and Delia have devoted 23 years of their lives to African wildlife and the indigenous people they lived near. The Cry of the Kalahari focused on the start of their lives in the Kalahari desert of Botswana as young newlywed grad students. Trying to eke out a living and study the animals living in a remote, desolate, hot basin, the book covers their struggle to survive in the heat with few supplies and less potable water. Secrets of the Savannah talks about their time in Zambia working with wildlife in yet another remote area. I enjoyed this book because there were stories interspersed about their individual childhoods in the US. Funny moments are mixed in with the moments that inspired them to leave their families behind and save the wild animals of Africa. You can't help but become close friends with Mark and Delia as you read their stories and experience Africa through them.I look forward to reading this book.
