Ponendosi all'interno di una progettualità che coniuga ricerca scientifica, catalogazione e restauro del patrimonio grafico antico, il libro racchiude il nucleo di disegni dei Gandolfi, singolari protagonisti della civiltà figurativa emiliana tra Sette e Ottocento. Per approfondire il mondo della formazione artistica nel microcosmo bolognese settecentesco, il volume procede per cantieri tematici e monografici e presenta oltre cento disegni afferibili alla famiglia dei Gandolfi: accanto ai fogli autografi di Ubaldo, Gaetano e Mauro e alle prove di bottega, in cui spiccano i nomi di Domenico e Filippo Pedrini, si riservano ben sessantasei schede ai disegni accademici.
