Tomato Target takes a comprehensive look at the unique artistic work of Annette Kelm and the visual idiom she has developed over the course of her career. The publication contextualizes Kelm's profound practice that deftly probes the medium of photography and portrays a simultaneously heterogeneous yet decisive use of subjects to signify and act as telling abstractions within her visually opulent object worlds. Die Fotografien, die Annette Kelm innerhalb einer großen Bandbreite von Erscheinungsformen im Laufe der letzten fünfzehn Jahre geschaffen hat, gehören zu den faszinierendsten und bedeutendsten Beiträgen der jüngsten zeitgenössischen Kunst. Die Künstlerin, die in einer Zeit an die Öffentlichkeit trat, in der sich die Fotografie sowohl als künstlerisches Objekt als auch als digitales Bild kontinuierlich neu erfand, konnte sich als Bildermacherin von kompromissloser Klarheit positionieren. Ihre Praxis beruht auf einem umfassenden Verständnis und einer Leidenschaft für althergebrachte Traditionen der Fotostudiopraxis, unter Einbeziehung analoger Film- und Dunkelkammerverfahren, sowie einem fortwährenden Interesse an Bildgenres wie Landschaft, Porträt und Stillleben.
