Reminisences from Chauncey Depew include events beginning in 1860 when he campaigned for Abraham Lincoln's election to the presidency. Acting secretary of state Frederick W. Seward recounts the events of April 14, 1865 starting with the cabinet meeting with Gen. Grant in attendance. He focuses on the assassination attempt on Secretary of State William H. Seward that coincided with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The final article includes reminiscences of Lincoln by Joseph G. Cannon, Horace Porter, and Frederick W. Seward.
