Rachel de Queiroz era cearense de Quixadá, onde tinha uma fazenda chamada "Não me deixes". A escritora foi a primeira mulher a pertencer a Academia Brasileira de Letras. Pertence aos assim denominados escritores regionalistas, como foram os contemporâneos, nordestinos e amigos José Lins do Rego, Graciliano Ramos e José Américo de Almeida. Raquel escrevia da mesma forma que falava sua língua cearense. Seus assuntos principais eram o Nordeste. Se livro mais conhecido e premiado foi "O Quinze". Era cronista e, como tal, fez por muito tempo na Revista "O Cruzeiro".
