Ma l'epoca moderna conosce anche grandi pensatori che non hanno seguito la linea di Cartesio: Pascal, Buffier, Vico, Reid, Jacobi, Kierkegaard, Rosmini, Peirce, Moore, Wittgenstein, Bergson, Gilson, Guardini. Da loro è derivata la nuova filosofia del senso comune, che oggi ispira molti autori in Italia e negli Stati Uniti.
