Es un estudio que nos lleva a una época poco estudiada de la Universidad Peruana (1850 - 1919). Este trabajo constituye un aporte nuevo al conocimiento de la cuatricentenaria de América (UNMSM). La conveniencia del periodo elegido en esta historia, radica fundamentalmente en que corresponde al tránsito, de una institución universitaria funcional a la cultura y la política colonial, a otra que responde a las intenciones del estado y la sociedad republicana.
