The latter work has a critical text by Étienne Danton Charlier of the Parti Libéral et Parti National. Joseph Janvier (1855-1911) was a Haitian journalist, diplomat and novelist who also wrote several novels about Haitian life. Jean Price-Mars (1876-1969) was a Haitian teacher, diplomat, writer, and ethnographer. His writings championed the Negritude movement in Haiti. This new edition makes accessible three important texts for the study of Haitian history.
