Description
Commonplace book kept primarily by Wigglesworth during his undergraduate years at Harvard. Additional items may have been added by Wigglesworth after his graduation. Text can be found at both the front and back of the volume; most of the pages in the middle are blank. Includes notes on German grammar and French pronunciation, lists of books to be read, books annotated, and subjects to be investigated, a list of mottos of some of the English nobility, and a list of the common names or prefixes of English towns, 1831. Records of student organizations in the volume include records of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, consisting of a list of members from the Classes of 1804-1821 and a short list of accounts. Brief mentions are made of the subjects discussed in the Debating Club. At the very end of the volume appears a list of treasurers for the Pythologian Society for 1819, a club that encouraged practice in public speaking and writing.
