Description

Waltercio Caldas' drawings are collected for the first time in a book, published by BEI Editora. With Lorenzo Mammì's text, bilingual publication brings a selection of about 160 works, composing a significant cut-off of the artist's production. They have been part of the editorial project since its first designs, designed in the 1960s, until the productions made in the last decade. According to Mammì, the drawing for Waltercio is not only a notation or a preparatory sketch, but also is not simply an artistic genre among others: even immaterial, it is in him "that everything takes shape". As the artist states, in an interview for O Globo newspaper: "I do not treat paper as a medium or drawing as an initial expression of a work. Drawing comes from design, and this is how I wanted the works to be; not as a representation of something, but as something that may appear.".
