Description
1965-1971 wurde im Oppidum von Manching die als Südumgehung bezeichnete Fläche ausgegraben. Dabei wurden neben zahlreichen Gräben und etwa 500 Gruben über 3300 Pfostengruben aufgedeckt, die Spuren der vergangenen Holzarchitektur darstellen. Über 50 Jahre nach Anfang der Grabung gelang es nun, die Pfostengruben zu Gebäuden zusammenzufügen und die einzelnen Besiedlungsphasen zu entschlüsseln. Somit kann nun nicht nur das Ausgreifen der Siedlung, sondern auch die Entwicklung verschieden genutzter Areale im Laufe der acht Bauphasen anhand der Südumgehung beobachtet werden.
