George Grosz' Frankreichaufenthalte wurden bisher wenig erforscht. Gitta Ho stellt in ihrem Buch die dort entstandenen Gemälde, Zeichnungen und Aquarelle sowie die Ausstellungen vor, die ihm in Paris gewidmet wurden. Grosz galt in Frankreich ab Mitte der 20er Jahre als der berühmteste deutsche Künstler überhaupt und verfügte über zahlreiche Kontakte zu namhaften Malern und Literaten wie Jules Pascin oder Yvan Goll. So zeichnet die Autorin anhand von Grosz' Beziehungen zur Kunst und Kultur des Nachbarlandes auch ein Bild der deutsch-französischen Kunstbeziehungen in den 1910er und 20er Jahren.
