Die UN-Blauhelme gehören bis heute zu den wichtigsten Organen der Vereinten Nationen. Kanada galt im 20. Jahrhundert als der Staat, der sich am stärksten mit dem UN Peacekeeping identifizierte und es unterstützte. Kanada gehörte seit den 1950er Jahren kontinuierlich zu den wichtigsten Truppenstellern. Die UN-Blauhelme waren Kernstück einer multilateralen Tradition kanadischer Außenpolitik und wurden innenpolitisch als Ausdruck kanadischer Identität wahrgenommen. Vor dem Hintergrund der Entwicklung des UN Peacekeeping untersucht die Studie die Wechselwirkung zwischen postkolonialer nationaler Identitätsbildung und der exponierten weltpolitischen Rolle Kanadas seit Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges.
