INTRODUCTION It is my pleasure to introduce the only new and different Crossword Puzzle Dictionary to come along in years. Chock-full of information not even covered by many volumes of specialized scope, this book is the finest aid available for solving crossword puzzles and other word games. It is the largest and most compendious book of its type, as a glance at the richness and range of the contents pages will reveal. Conceived by Albert H. Morehead, the well-known lexicographer, and worked on by a staff trained in the field, this book assures the confirmed puzzle solver of an authoritative and comprehensive guide to the world of words, and of crossword puzzles in particular. So complete are the various categories that even a person who is not primarily interested in crosswords could put it to use as a handy reference guide in various fields. Special stress has been laid on the unusual words, exactly the ones that baffle most solvers. (A dictionary that tells you what you already know is not only exasperating, but useless.) For the puzzle fan, his dictionary is the matchless "source par excellence, a bunt of information he cannot do without. Mr. Morehead, before he created this book, had long and arduous experience in dictionary and encyclopedia making, in fact, lexicography was his lifework, by choice, so he could bring the advantages of more knowledge and trained techniques to a book like this, better than anyone else who ever tackled such a job. It is truly a labor of love, as the reader will find out as he enjoys this book. Mr. Morehead was also a pioneer in the crossword puzzle field, since he introduced the Puns and Anagrams type of puzzle to the American public, having created the first ever to appear in the United States, and the first complete book of them. You can only learn what a complete puzzle guide this book is by browsing through it at your leisure, familiarizing yourself with all its qualities and quantities. Thus you will and it as up-to-date as the space age and as old as myth-ology and the Bible. Indispensable is the word that best scribes this newest, largest, most useful and complete password Puzzle Dictionary ever to appear in paperback or hard covers. JACK LUZZATTO
