Dipinto dal celebre fiammingo al termine del proprio soggiorno nella penisola, mostra una stesura pittorica di straordinaria qualità e l'invenzione, derivata da Rubens, suo maestro, dello scorcio riservato alla croce e alla posa drammatica del Salvatore. Il catalogo di Sagep Editori, attraverso un saggio di Daniele Sanguineti, indaga la realizzazione dell'opera nell'ambito della produzione del pittore.
