L'État colonial et, plus tard, postcolonial, étaient les principaux acteurs du fait urbain et de la sédentarisation, récente au Sahara Atlantique, sans négliger la conjoncture climatique catastrophique qui avait déstructuré les systèmes de productions pastorales nomades. Au-delà d'une approche essentialiste du nomadisme, nous traitons ici comment le nomade habitait sa tente, et par la suite sa maison, pour pouvoir mettre l'accent sur l'interaction entre l'organisation spéciale et l'organisation sociale.
