Description
Taken as a whole, these two volumes examine the first one hundred years of American constitutional history. The times demand an intelligent understanding and appraisal of the origin and growth of the principles of our system of government, if this system is to survive on its merits or to be wisely modified and adapted to twentieth-century conditions and needs. Many of our citizens hold mythological ideas concerning the origin and nature of the constitution, and errors of this kind can be combatted only by presenting the true history. These volumes represent an attempt to present that history. -- from the preface to volume one.
