Description
The simulation of the kinetic equations for the AGN-201 reactor was programmed on the Donner Model 3100 analog computer. The accuracy of the simulation was verified by comparisn with both a digital computer solution of the kinetic equations and with the measured time response of the AGN-201 reactor. A discontinuous (on-off) type automatic flux control system was designed and placed in closed loop operation with the simulated reactor. The sensitivity of the control system was adjusted to obtain the specified performance. The control system was then installed on the AGN-201 and the accuracy of this design technique was verified by time response measurements. The control system proved to be a simple, effective device capable of maintaining the power (flux) level of the reactor within plus or minus 3% of the desired level at all levels of reactor operation between 0.01 and 200 watts.
